[EN] Shen Özdemir was born in La Louvière in 1996. Since 2020, when she began her master’s degree in sculpture, the artist has been working on Karnavalo, an imaginary carnival founded by herself. Its intention is to create an international human community through cultural syncretism. By imagining a shared narrative, hybridization and common language attempt to aim for total inclusion and peace within this folklore, giving rise to new cultural forms. The imaginary carnival is made up of a multitude of happy-headed troupes. Each troop defines a distinct family, fuelling the festivity and abundance of folklore. Karnavalo belongs to no territory. Its roots lie where Shen meets the most people: outside. His greatest inspirations come from encounters animated by so many emotions. The size, shapes and colors of all these characters draw us into a generous, lively and expressive universe.

[FR] Shen Özdemir est née à La Louvière en 1996. Depuis 2020, alors qu’elle débute son master en sculpture, l’artiste travaille sur Karnavalo, un carnaval imaginaire fondé par elle-même. Son intention est de créer une communauté humaine internationale par le syncrétisme culturel. En imaginant un récit partagé, l’hybridation et le langage commun tentent de viser l’inclusion totale ainsi que la paix au sein de ce folklore, donnant lieu à des formes culturelles nouvelles. Le carnaval imaginaire est composé d’une multitude de troupes de têtes joyeuses. Chaque troupe définit une famille distincte en alimentant la festivité et l’abondance du folklore. Karnavalo n’appartient à aucun territoire. Sa racine se trouve là où Shen rencontre le plus de monde : l’extérieur. Ses plus grandes inspirations découlent de ses rencontres animées par tant d’émotions. Tous ces personnages, par leur taille, leurs formes et leurs couleurs nous rapetissent dans un univers généreux, vif et expressif.
